Far Out of The Box: The Meaning Behind the words

The title "Far Out of the Box" woke me from a dream.

Some eight + years ago, I awoke in the middle of the night and received this epiphany, this phrase. It felt powerful and true to me, and so there I was at 3am researching online to see if I could change my IG handle / claim a donation name etc.

I couldn't find it anywhere! It was ready for me to claim it.

Now, it holds even more meaning to me than when I first embraced it.

At first, it was both a nod to my deep feeling of connection to the music and counterculture scene of the 1960s and 70s, ("Far out!!")

coupled with my lifestyle choice to reject the mainstream and be a part of worker-owned democratically run restaurant for the better part of my twenties.

I was also hula hooping a lot at the time, and circles are about as far away from boxes as you can get.

Now "Far Out of the Box" has evolved.

It signifies the path of a nomad, the path of leaving four walls behind and stepping out into the world. In doing so, you get to come back home to the natural world.

In my yogic teaching, it's been realizing that I prefer to teach outdoor yoga, where we can feel the breeze on our skin and move with the birds chirping around us. Leaving the "box" of a studio space behind.

It feels empowering in internal healing work. Recognizing that old stories about who we 'should' be or what we 'should' want in life are just boxes that hold us back.

It's thrilling that with my coaching work, I now get to support others in recognizing and shedding their boxes.

Far Out of the Box is freedom!!

It's liberation! A coming home to authentic self. Permission to be as wacky, weird, nerdy, queer, loud, quiet, vibrant, bold as is true to you!!

To embrace your most Radiant Self!
